Sampath Bank wins MCA Rapid Chess Championship - 2009

Sampath Bank Chess Team consisted with Dulan Edirisinghe, SanjeewaSubasinghe & Nuwan Harishchandra managed to win this year Mercantile Rapid Chess Championship conducted by the Mercantile Chess Association at Lions Activity Centre, Colombo 07.

The Award ceremony of 2008 & 2009 of the Mercantile Chess Association also had at this venue and Mr. Ramal Jasinghe, the Chief Executive Officer of Asian Alliance Insurance PLC who is the President of Mercantile Chess Assosiation. Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya mentioned that their idea is to create a Grand Master among the Mercantile Sector and inform all the participants to help the association to increase the membership drive to succeed this need. Mr. Ramal Jasinghe, President of the Mercantile Chess Association mentioned that he was very happy to see a successful Rapid chess tournament before the Annual Award Ceremony. He further added that Mrs. Suneetha Wijesuriya, dynamic secretary of the MCA is taking a tremendous efforts to promote chess not only among the Mercantile Sector but also among the students island wide through the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club and we all must appreciate her promotional work and must support continuously for the betterment of chess in Sri Lanka.
