Chess introductory programme for schools in Anuradhapura district

Chess introductory programme for schools in Anuradhapura district was organized by the Anuradhapura District Chess Association in collaboration with Ministry of Education of North Central Provincial Council on 03rd August 2010 at Resource Centre; Jayanthi Mw, Anuradhapura. Lions Club Minuwangoda was the main sponsor of the event.

Health, Indigenous Medicine, Social welfare, Probation and Child care service, Sports & Youth, Women Affairs Provincial Minister Hon. Peshala Jayaratne Bandara was the chief guest. Mr. K. Abesundara {Deputy Education Director - Sports & physical Education) & Mrs. Indrani Jayasekara {Tournament Organizer for North Central province- Sri Lanka Schools Chess Association} among the guests.

25 teachers and 50 students from 25 schools in rural areas such as Thalawa, Kekirawa, Thambuttegama, Kaluwila, and Mihintale etc, were participated the programme. Complete Chess sets & Chess software were donated to each school by Anuradhapura District Chess Association to enable to start Chess in schools.
