wins the Group X with 9 ½ points while Seneviratne tops Group Y
with 8 points |

Sanudula Dahamdi of
Musaeus College prove herself as the leading player in the age group of
under 14 years in Sri Lanka by winning the Group X of the 2nd Sri Lanka
Youth (Under 14 Yrs) Chess Grand Prix 2021 with a lead of 1 ½ points
to all others in both groups yesterday at the Chess Federation of Sri
Lanka. She scored a total of 9 ½ points out of possible 11 Games.
She won her both games on the last day against Pamok Samaranayake and
Insara Wickramarathne. Dinul Vinsitha Weerasekara of Dharmapala Vidyalaya,
Pannipitiya scored 8 points out of 11 games in Group X to place 2nd. Dinul
Beat Malisha Weeratunge in the 10th round and drew with MM Nanayakkara
to win the Silver Medal. |

SDBK Seneviratne of
Maliyadeva College tied with Brijeash Saravanabhavan of Gateway College
with 8 points each and won the gold medal in Group Y on the better tie
breaker. Seneviratne lost to Disara Tennakoon in the 10th round and beat
Jayandi Bimansa in the final round to complete his achievement. Brijeash
drew his both games in 10th and 11th rounds with Dinayana Thinuga and
Kaviska Gimshan Laksiri respectively to score 8 points, but had to satisfy
with the Silver Medal on the tie breaker. |

Vivash Samarakoon of
Royal College who was leading the Group Y of the event in first half of
the event managed to win the Bronze Medal on the better tie breaker after
tying with Gimshan Laksiri of Asoka Vidyalaya scoring 7 points each. Dishal
Nimsara Weerasekara of Sri Chandananda Buddhist College Kandy won the
3rd place with 7 ½ points out of 11. Dishal was unfortunate to
lose 1 ½ points out of 2 in the last day. He lost his penultimate
round game to Insara Wickramarachchi and satisfied with a draw against
KSCD Amarathunge in the final game to reach the position. |

The 2nd Sri Lanka
Youth Chess Grand Prix 2021 conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka
with a total number of 24 leading Chess players of the age group in the
country is in progress from 9th to 14th March 2021 as two round robin
events of two groups of 12 players and the winner and the runner up in
both groups will meet in the knocked out stage on 20th and 21st of March
2021. The Chess Federation has offered Rs. 55,000/= in cash and has made
all the arrangements to have the event according to the health guidelines
issued by the Ministry of Health as given below: |

1. Keeping records of all participants. 2. Players should come in masks for the event. 3. CFSL supplies Sanitizer, face shields and gloves for the participants 4. Social distancing is arranged with distance among boards 5. No spectators/ Parents are allowed in the venue. |

The event was organized
with the highest standard with DGT Chess Boards for all games to broadcast
live. A live streaming of the event will also be arranged in the final
stage. |

stage is set as given below with two games with different colour each
in each round. |

If there is a tie in the knocked out stage
the tiebreakers of the World Cup is used: 1. Two Rapid Games will be played with alternative colors. If still tie remains: 2. Two Blitz Games will be played with alternative colors. If still tie remains: 3. An Armageddon game is played giving 5 minutes to white and 4 minutes to Black. If the game is drawn, it is considered as a win for Black. |
