India grabbed the 2nd Buddhi International Championships convincingly
scoring with 8.5 points out of 9 games yesterday. He, the top
seed in the event with an ELO of 2408 had only a draw against

was held recently at the Auditorium of the Lions Activity Centre,
Colombo. WIM Sachini Ranasinghe graced the ceremony as the Chief
Guest and distributed the medals to the winners. Mr. Susil Perera,
Managing Director of W.S.Perera & Sons (Pvt) Ltd, Mr. Priyadarshana
Perera, Director of Piyasiri Printing Systems, Dr. Sandaruwan

Chamika Perara, a 16 year old
student of Trinity College became the Sri Lanka National Chess
Champion convincingly. Young Chamika played the event very confidently
and scored a total of 9 1/2 points out of possible 13 games
to achieve this title. It was a one sided race for Sachini Ranasinghe
(Musaeus College), the maiden women International Master of
Sri Lanka in the Women's Nationals. She scored a total of 12
points out of possible 13, just giving away couple of draws

Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre organized a
Jt. Media Conference and a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition with
the support of Grand Master Nigel Short who was a World Chess
Championship Finalist, 3 Times European Chess Champion and Commonwealth
Chess Champion. Grand Master Short played with 20 players at
once at the Russian Centre and managed to win all the games.
